Founder and Director:

Alexander Rodriguez Novoa

He experienced first-hand what it is to live exposed to the most dangerous conditions of the city of Bogotá, Colombia. He witnessed the devastating effects of a unrestrained drug culture and knows how the process of addiction begins in both adults and children, the endless cycle of consumption that no one can control and that how it affects neighborhoods and cities. He understood that a disorderly and dangerous life demands a great price; In many cases that price is death. One day, an encounter with a complete stranger changed the course of his life. That person overcame prejudices to approach him, regardless of his physical condition. She showed him the love of God. After that experience, he left the life he led and began to serve others, with the firm intention of showing them the love that had been shown to him. It was at this stage of his life that he understood that both children and young people were in need, for many of them lived in the same condition of danger and disorder that he had suffered. It was at that moment he knew he had to do something.

In August 2008, the Puerta del Luz Foundation was born, in response to the need to reach the children of the South of Bogota who are at risk for drug use and who are exposed to all kinds of violence. Through the various programs offered at the Foundation's headquarters and others implemented on the streets, the Foundation reaches more than 1,900 children and young people every week in the most needy sectors in the city of Bogota. The Foundation is active in the community and prepares young people and leaders who intervene in these areas, reaching people unknown but living in need, in order to generate changes in the lives of the population. All this is made possible through the prevention of drug use, violence and offering a decent living alternative, through the programs of the Foundation.
